ABOUT ME

Erin Bennell

My idea for Carpe Diem and mentoring began when I returned to tutoring at university in 2016 and realised my students didn’t know how to study or how to organise their time. When I asked them if they were taught how to study at school, their answer was a resounding no. Then my daughter began secondary school and the experiences of my students were confirmed.

So, to support my daughter’s learning and the learning of as many young people as possible, I founded Carpe Diem Mentoring. The very simple idea is to support the learning of young people with study skills and techniques that schools don’t have time to teach in a crowded curriculum.

The second part of my idea was to support people with their organisation and life administration. I was always the student with a tidy locker, a folder with colour tabs, all required stationery and I had a super tidy bedroom. In the intervening years nothing has changed and I want to use my organising skills to reduce the friction in people’s busy lives.

I first started teaching in universities in 1997, when I was a graduate student and returned in 2016. In between I was a public servant and a secondary school teacher. I have a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts and a Diploma of Education. I am registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and have a Working with Children Check. I live in the Yarra Valley with my husband of twenty-three years, our daughter, two Kelpies and a very anxious cat.
